Originally from the East Coast of the US, Jack moved to Hawaii 40 years ago and never looked back. Working as a wildlife biologist for much of this time, he has been involved with research, management, and conservation of Hawaii’s critically endangered forest birds and their limited habitats. As a photographer, he combines a naturalist’s curiosity with a photographer’s patience and technical skill to produce beautiful photographic images of native species. Jack is co-author of several books on Hawaiian birds and his photos have published internationally in field guides, magazines, books and calendars. Currently, he leads photography tours and photo workshops in Hawaii and in Africa. Jack is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Sierra Club Ansel Adams’ Award for Conservation Photography, Distinguished Service Award in Conservation from the Hawaii Conservation Alliance, and the Audubon Society Conservationist of the Year.
